Sean’s 10+ years of experience working as an Elevating Devices Mechanic (EDM) in a family-run business made the transition to installing stair lifts and home elevators a seamless move, while bringing along strong family values into his new venture. Prior to this, Sean served as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry. His leadership skills, work ethic and an ongoing commitment to helping veterans, has been instrumental in the company’s service inclusion with Canada’s Veterans Independent Program (VIP). Sean is the co-lead on the MS Society's Governance Relations Committee and sits on the leadership board for the Employment Accessibility Resource Network (EARN). Sean's passion has transformed this small start-up into the award-winning design and accessible renovation company it is today. On the side, Sean is renewing his love of road-biking, is training to become a Dive Master, and is loving his new role as a proud poppa.

Kyla completed her Master of Nursing with a focus on environmental modifications from a health care perspective. Kyla’s passion for social justice, human rights and the advancement of accessibility as a health care issue, have been an integral part of bringing BuildAble to life. With BuildAble’s substantial growth, she now been able to concentrates her director efforts and passions as their clinical nurse specialist and health assessment consultant. Kyla is a multiple award-winning entrepreneur, a professional speaker, adjunct professor of community health at the University of Ottawa in the BScN program, and a BScN faculty advisor at Algonquin College. Kyla is an avid traveller, scuba diver, a new mom, and has regularly been voted 'most likely to be hit by a car crossing the street trying to pet all the dogs'.
Director, Construction & Chief Financial Officer
Dan founded and ran a successful renovation company called Word of Mouth Construction for over a decade before joining BuildAble as a Partner in 2016. Dan brings over 15 years’ experience as a renovation specialist to the team, and his experience in fine carpentry, cabinet building, concrete and stone work, has attuned his incredible attention to detail. He now oversees the high-quality accessible
craftsmanship provided by the BuildAble team, as well as the financial oversight. With his passion for accessibility and always learning, Dan recently registered at Carleton University to undertake the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification and has become a professional assessor. Dan is also fully bilingual and is happy to help out our Francophone clients directly. Dan loves the outdoors, and has some serious skills in the kitchen. We'll be there for dinner!

Michael has been building relationships with a client-centred focus for over 15 years. His service expertise was developed in commercial and home construction, as well as procurement of glass, doors, and everything in between. Graduating with honours from Fleming’s Business Administration program, Michael uses his skills and knowledge to ensure that his client’s needs are met throughout the project process. His strong work ethic make him an indispensable part of any project team. Michael is passionate about helping others, with older adults being particularly close to his heart. He has personally experienced how accessible spaces can improve quality of life; witnessing not only the transformation of spaces but of lives makes him proud to be part of the BuildAble team. Michael loves reading, and the great outdoors (mostly golf!), and has been known to watch a Boston Bruin game or two.
Project & Operations Manager
Maureen is an exceptionally skilled Red Seal Carpenter with over 14 years of renovations experience. Her eye for detail, organizational skills and passion for helping to bring beautiful accessible renovations to life, has made Maureen an invaluable asset as to the BuildAble team. She is regularly inspired by the positivity and grace that BuildAble’s clients exude when facing some very challenging, life-altering injuries or illnesses. Seeing her client's overjoyed reactions to a completed project that also increases their quality of life is what Maureen loves most about her work. Maureen is a strong advocate in supporting girls and youth to enter the trades, and volunteers her time running workshops and school engagements, such as the Building Up Girls Construction Club. Outside of work, Maureen is an avid dragonboater, yogi, outdoor enthusiast, a momma bear and most recently, Birdie's (the dog) new retirement plan.
Carl graduated with Honours from the heritage carpentry and furniture making programs at Algonquin College. He has also received specialized training in Ireland, and throughout Canada and the U.S., broadening his extensive fine carpentry skills. Before joining the BuildAble team, Carl ran a successful business building fine custom homes and large-scale renovations. Carl feels that working in accessible renovations is a great reason to get up very early in the morning.
"I was happy improving people's homes before, but now I'm happiest improving people's lives - as well as their homes.” Outside of work, Carl is keeping up to date on current affairs, researching building science, and sharing his love for the environment, fishing and growing his own delicious vegetables.
